Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about antique appraisal services
Our appraisal fees are based on the time, expertise, and complexity required — never as a percentage of the item's value. Typical fees range from $150–$300 per hour, with a minimum fee for small collections. For a single item, you can expect $200–$500 depending on research requirements. We provide a written quote before any work begins. View our detailed pricing guide.
We appraise a wide range of antiques and collectibles including: fine art (paintings, prints, sculpture), jewelry and watches, furniture, silver and metals, ceramics and porcelain, rare books and manuscripts, coins and currency, military memorabilia, vintage toys, and decorative arts. If you're unsure whether we appraise your item, contact us and we'll be happy to advise.
Any documentation you have adds value to the appraisal. Please provide: receipts or purchase records, previous appraisals, provenance information (ownership history), photographs showing the item, and any known history or stories about the piece. Avoid cleaning or restoring items before appraisal — original condition is important for accurate assessment.
Turnaround time depends on the number of items and research required. For a single item, you can expect your written report within 5–7 business days after physical inspection. For larger collections (20+ items), allow 10–14 business days. Rush services are available for an additional fee when needed.

Fair Market Value is the price an item would sell for between a willing buyer and seller, typically used for estate tax and charitable donation purposes. Replacement Value (insurance value) is the cost to replace an item with one of similar age, quality, and condition. Replacement value is typically higher than fair market value. We'll help you determine which value type is appropriate for your needs.
Yes. All our appraisals comply with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), which are the federally recognized standards. Our certified appraisers are members of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), ensuring our reports are accepted by insurance companies, financial institutions, the IRS, and courts.
No. We are strictly appraisers and do not purchase items we evaluate. This ensures complete objectivity in our valuations. However, we can provide guidance on selling options including auction houses, dealers, and private sales if you decide to sell your items after appraisal.
For insurance purposes, we recommend reappraisal every 3–5 years as market values can fluctuate significantly. For estate planning, reappraise before major life events or every 5 years. We offer revaluation services at reduced rates for returning clients.
While we don't buy or sell items, we provide expert guidance on the best way to sell your collection. This includes auction house selection, reserve price recommendations, and private dealer referrals. Our goal is to help you maximize value while ensuring a smooth transaction.
